Two battered teams faced each other in this match. In total 6 players where missing the game, two from NC and four from DR. The latter had to get a journeyman to be able to field 11 players.
NC also only had 11 of their own players, but facing the champs gives lots of inducements and they could replace their two missing ghouls with a couple of blodger mercenary ghouls as well as chainsaw wielder Hack Enslash. And along with them came also a wizard and an Igor. Both of which were never used… The later was not needed and the first was simply forgotten… again!
DR received and tried to get into scoring position. But soon a tough choice presented it self. Although DR drew the first blood of the match when Buddha SI Carion Casket (who regenerated), then soon the blood was only drawn the other way… And already early in the drive did the first rat die. It was mummy Mentuhoteph who started the cas feast by killing Saturn. Usually DR's coach saves the apotech for Jesus and the like, but this was too much for him and the apo came to the Vermins rescue and saved him. But that meant that most of the match was played without the apo.
Half way through the half Jesus handed the ball to Holy Spirit for a TD for 1-0.
NT then began the next drive by taking out two line rats BH! Once again it was Mentuhoteph who BH Frej B and then Liche BH Odin B. But still Holy Spirit managed to strip the ball from the ball carrier. A lot of fighting over the ball ensued, when Jesus failed a difficult pick-up. And for some time it seemed that NT would tie anyway. But in the end of the half DR had the luck and Jesus scored for 2-0.
With a KO as well DR was down to only 8 players for 2nd half, but with 2 TDs ahead they only needed to stall the undeads for a while. And so they did. Actually so well that Holy Spirit again wrestled the ball from the ghoul, and suddenly God had the ball safe at DRs own end zone. But once again Jesus had trouble getting the ball. For the fourth time this match did he fail obtaining the ball. And this was almost fatal. Not for Jesus, but for God who was SI by Liche and misses the next match.
And finally NT could get at the ball and Baba Ganouschz reduced to 2-1.
With half a half left, DR was still not sure of the victory. Cause they were now down to 7 players, only two runners and only the teams reserve thrower. But Vishnu managed his first completion ever with Buddha out KO. And Jesus was in TD range.
However, several blocks later Jesus was subsequently pushed back to his own side, and DR was pressed. But a great change of side almost closed a cage. That was made possible by the dodging journeyman Heimdal C who where hired after the match.
In a last attempt to stop Jesus, Liche blitzed his way into him by BH Holy Spirit. But it was not enough and Jesus leapt away from him over Liber Necris and dodged away pushing him self in for the winning TD 3-1 in the dying seconds of the match.
But wait, the angry NT fans held up the match, and when the riot was over the ref had turned back the clock, and both teams had time for a last TD attempt. And incredibly a long pass by Baba Ganouschz was caught by Liber Necris who scored the final TD for 3-2 after Mentuhoteph had made his 3rd casualty of the day by BHing Thor D.
Both the mummy and Liche took out three rats each! The mummy learned his first skill from this.
The zombie Al "Blood" Gore who received the MVP also learned his first skill, whereas God obtained his MVP for being the only rat to be SI. This took him past the 126 spp mark, which once earned you the title of Mega Star. But this is no longer the case…
