The two top teams in the upper brackets faced off in the battle to win the upper brackets. Both teams where already sure to win their group! DR had send half of the team on vacation (or so had Olvig Vikings…) But with two journeymens and two mercenary linerats, one with kick, DR could field 13 players (7 linerats) vs. 12 Wood Elfs.
An equal amount of fans had shown up for each team to see DR kick off to WWW. A rock took out kicking mercenary line rat KO, and very soon the fastest player in the league Fast catch had made his catch and another one turn TD… 1-0.
That had to stop, so even though yet another rock took out a journeyman linerat KOed, The Mother helped God hunt down the fast catcher, and the blitz was successful when God BH Fast catch in DR's first blitz. That put a stopper for the one turning.
Next turn a hand-off to Jesus send him on his way for a tying TD 1-1.
With brilliant coaching WWW came out hitting hard when first John Nash killed a Heimdal C and then vengeance came swiftly as Axton blitzed God down BH.
But suddenly the ball carrier Tonny "Let arm" was blitzed down by Holy Spirit, and he was so surprised to see the runner leap in to him, that he forgot to dump-off until it was too late… But no runners could get at the ball, and next the thrower Tonny "Let arm" came up again and managed to pass it to Lightning Feet who scored for 2-1.
On the LoS the hired mercenary linerat took out the leader TDC Online Mail BH, and this opened up for an easy TD for Jesus next turn for 2-2.
Once again Axton blitzed himself to another BH, this time on Buddha. Thus he had removed both of DR's tackle specialists! But once again Holy Spirit could leap in and take a hit on thrower Tonny "Let arm". This time he did manage the dump off, but then Jubii Mail failed the catch in a linerat's TZ. The ball bounced via this linerat out next to Jesus, who then ran with it and passed it into the EZ where not Elf could reach.
When Jesus was not taken down, it was only made marginally harder for him to get the TD by the TZ put on the ball by Hotmail and it was thus no problem for Jesus to take DR in the lead 2-3 in WWW's receiving half!
DR received for 2nd half against an almost perfect defence. But the ball was kept safe down their own pitch until Jesus was put in a cage in scoring reach. And next it was no problem for him to get the ball from The Mother and run it in for the 4th TD.
DR once again had a chance to hit on dump-off thrower Tonny "Let arm" and this time the two runners made his pass inaccurate. But it still hit close enough to Zap da pain for him to catch it with no problems.
This meant that DR had no chance of stopping the reducing TD, and soon Lightning Feet had the ball and could stroll past Jesus for the TD. But first after Axton's move, as he wanted to throw a blitz by dodging into the TZ of The Mother. But then he failed the dodge!
Well then Jesus could just as well strip the ball from Lightning Feet grab it and run into a cage down in scoring reach. This time Axton managed to get a blitz in, but first after a difficult leap was barely managed, and then he could not get Jesus down. So next turn Jesus scored his and DR's 5th and winning TD.
With a perfect defence DR managed to protect the important players while first Jack Lumber took out one mercenary linerat BH (the one who had been at his roots all match) and then Zap da pain took out the other (with kick) also BH. And as DR did nothing against WWW, (except that Poseidon manage to take down the tree and Balder C managed to foul him stunned) there was no problem for Lightning Feet to reduce the score to 3-5 in the end.
The MVPs went to Jubii Mail and to God. The latter for taking out the annoying Fast catch, the only threat to Jesus' season top scorer position. With Jesus winning this match 5-1 in TDs over Fast catch that top spot is almost secured.
And with this win DR consolidated their position as the best team after the group play!
