Match notes
In front of a season record crowd the two enemies DR and OV faced off again. Two extra apotechs had the rats brought for the game and a dirty mercenary linerat. But else each team started with 15 of their own players.
DR kicks and comes out blitzing. But the ball is kicked deep and when trying to press the Norse team Loke is KOed on the way. The Vikings then blocks and on the LoS does the big guy Theodor Santini open the cas spree with a SI on Heimdal B. (The line rat ends up receiving the MVP for taking the first hit). And then dirty player Snorre Skjoldsson fouls God KO.
But the thrower Svine Buesson is standing on the sideline with the ball and Holy Spirit blitzes him off the pitch. But before this the thrower manages to dump off to a square from which the runner cannot reach the ball. Holy Spirit was the only runner left on pitch as he and God started alone with Jesus sitting with (his) The Mother on the bench.
And soon Holy Spirit is also KOed. This do not leave much hope for DR's TD chances, but the ball remains on the ground only in Skjal Egilsson TZ. And even though he is much stronger than Poseidon the latter manages to blitz him away from the ball, and from there it would be easy to grab the ball and run for the TD, but it had taken some effort to push the Ogre strong lineman and the pick-up fails.
With no runners on the pitch and with another foul by Snorre Skjoldsson, this time SI Thor B the Vikings proceed to score quickly, Uld Runeson making it 0-1.
This gives DR plenty of time to score, but neither of the two KOed runners comes back for the 2nd drive. So this time it must be Jesus and The Mother. But it is payback time, so this time the Vikings come blitzing out. But they are going heavily after the dirty mercenary and leaving a hole open in the middle of the defence. So Jesus manages to get the ball in a cage like structure on the right side of the pitch (He had the ball after a touch back. Had it not gone out it would have been left in reach for OV.).
As no one tries to stop Jesus he runs the ball safe near the EZ and thus takes important time from OV's chance to retaliate. And then he scores for 1-1, his 50th TD thus taking the record for most TDs in the league for himself, after having tied since last match!
Both KOed runners come back in, and soon it turns out that it is DR that has the best chance to score for 2-1. Although the Vikings take down both Brage A and Tyr B SI (by Knud Eriksson and Ulf Runeson) only one Viking is in scoring reach - Frode Herlufson - and he is blitzed down and SI by Uranus.
In the drives last turn Svine Buesson is attacked by both God and Holy Spirit. The latter making ready for a blitz, but again the thrower manages a dump-off leaving the ball out of reach for a TD. Bad coaching by DR's coach!
DR receives for 2nd half, still with 11 players ready and they can also hit, this time Poseidon takes out Svine Buesson BH. Having already pushed ST 5 players around the Vermin increases his own strength from this match!
Jesus manages to get the ball safe in a cage within TD reach. This time Vikings tries to stop him, helped a lot when Egil Uldsson piles on God and BH him. (It was by the way God's 50th match for DR). But the diving tackler Uld Runeson is knocked down and Jesus leaps over the defence and scores for 2-1.
In what is to be the last drive DR keeps getting the ball away from the Vikings. First Bue Snorressonm who caught the kick, is stripped from it by Holy Spirit. After some lucky bounces Jesus can reach it, but decides to throw it out of reach, but he fumbles. Vikings retrieves the ball but keeps getting striped or fails catches.
However, they also keep KILLING DR's players. Already in the drives first blitz Egil Uldsson targets the dirty mercenary and kills him. Then Knud Eriksson kills Loke but the team apotech heals this, so he will only MNG. (On DR's roster the last four MNG ended on nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 in that order.)
Two times more does Jesus have a chance to get the ball but both times he fails the pick-up or a dodge, but the trouble with the ball has also taken its toll on the Vikings and before their last chance no throwers are left to handle the ball and the team spirit is low.
Just before going for the tying TD big fella Theodor Santini who opened the cas spree ends it with Vikings 8th cas and third kill in a row in this last drive. He kills Uranus but one of the hired quacksalvers at least manages to revive him although he now sports a niggling. Good thing the last hired apotech did not come into play.
And then once again the Vikings fail a pick-up and that ends the match in DR's favour 2-1. But both a pass and a catch was left before the TD would have been secured, and it was quite unlucky for DR that Jesus did not manage to give The Mother the ball for a 3-1 victory in stead at least three times.
The MVP for Vikings end on Bjørn Annasdatter who learned side step from this.
DR went into the match with 16 players ready, and comes out with only one permanent injury, but also only 9 players ready for the cross over… 6 MNGs in one match out of 8 casualties and then a kill on a mercenary! Tough conditions!
