Just when the two teams entered the pitch the rain started pouring down and this continued all through the match.
The weather proved decisive from the first turn, when the slippery ball could not be picked-up by DD’s thrower Franz von Hipper. And thus it was easy for Jesus to get hold of it and pass it back to Madonna. She was, however, not out of reach of Kress von Kressenstein who managed to take her down. But then when trying to get his TZ on the ball pushed it too hard.
So Jesus had no problem with once again getting the ball and he ran out of reach towards his own EZ. In the meantime Zeus killed Leopold of Bavaria, but the apo was able to cure him, so he will be ready again after next match. This was avenged by Ogre Grogosh Krust who BH Frej B.
But Jesus could now run into scoring reach, and only Kress von Kressenstein had a chance to get over to the other side, and his leap over the rat line failed. Thus midway through first half Jesus could stroll in for a 0-1 lead for DR.
Next drive DD made Kress von Kressenstein take the ball himself considering the weather and next turn Grogosh Krust blitzed Muhammad SI thus enabling a cage to be formed down DR's pitch. But look who comes running to get the ball, and a nice leap later Holy Spirit is ready to take the ball from Kress von Kressenstein. Having psyched himself up to equal the strength of the catcher, and with his team practice to draw upon, he usually succeeds in freeing the ball 35 times out of 36 in such a situation, but not this time! Bam the catcher took him down instead. And now the cage is reformed again within scoring reach just in time. And Holy Spirit is fouled stunned so he will not come running again!
But look now, it is Jesus that runs to the cage, and he is so agile that he slips into the cage, and pushes back Kress von Kressenstein and with his new stripping abilities rips the ball from the catcher. It bounces to the back side of the cage, and seeing no one else can reach it but him, Jesus continues to dodge out through three players and gets the ball in a TZ and one last push he stands free with the ball.
Alas, he is surrounded by opposing players. But the blitz did not take him down, and also the pro Alexander von Kluck fails. In the end even Kress von Kressenstein has to give it a try but also he fails. Jesus still stands with the ball. He is packed up in opposing players, but a simple blitz gives him only one TZ to get out of, and that is no problem for Jesus and soon he has handed the ball to Madonna who in spite of the rain easily catches it and runs it in for a 0-2 lead at half time.
Receiving the ball with this lead DR looks good. And for the next 3 turns they shift sides from right to left and back before finally Madonna passes it to Jesus far down the left side of DD’s pitch. These last turns the rats have kept an open cage to ensure no fireball could take them all out. And in the end the wizard were not used and Jesus ensures the victory with a TD for 0-3.
But it could easily have been an even bigger victory. Cause in their desperate effort to score quickly it is once again no problem for Holy Spirit to leap in to take the ball from Kress von Kressenstein, but unbelievable for the second time what should have been a 35/36 times job is the 1/36 where he goes down him self. And thus Kress von Kressenstein makes the TD for 1-3.
With two turns to go Jesus and Madonna should have managed to make it 1-4, especially as the wizard is finally used and the rain causes the lightning bolt to fizzle uselessly. But when only a simple pass is needed, Jesus has gotten too tired and fumbles the ball. This could have resulted in some injuries for the rats, but also DD’s players are tired and the match ends with Maxim von Königsberg taking himself down against no other than Zeus. But he lived to tell the tale!
The pro lineman Alexander von Kluck received the MVP for DD whereas SI Rat Ogre Muhammad took DR’s? Neither team obtained new skills from the match!
